This might sound a little silly (and it definitely is)...BUT, the station is based in South Wales, right? Who are two of Wales' biggest musical and sports stars right now? Yup, Charlotte and Gavin. If the contest was based around a couple of Hollywood actors, then the impact would be less.
So, fair play, I say for taking a 'local' angle and making something out of it. Something their listeners can actually relate to.
