Bill Drake RIP.

Thanks to Barry Dunne for getting in touch to say that Boss Radio originator Bill Drake has passed away aged 71.
It's funny really, I wrote an entry last week all about the Boss Radio phenomenon and how it was trying to make a comeback in California and then the man behind the whole concept leaves us.
If you are a fan of saying-as-much-as-possible-in-as-few-words-as-possible (ie Word Economy), then you can look to this man as your benchmark. He practically invented the concept.

"He really sort of cleaned Top 40 radio up," said John Long, president of the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame, which inducted Drake in 2007.

His talent for creating memorable station IDs can still be heard today - just tune into K-Earth 101 Los Angeles and at the top of each hour you will hear the trumpet heralds he composed.

RIP.
