i105107 Launch.

November 17th has been confirmed as the start date for the new regional station i105107.

Based in sunny Athlone, they will broadcast to the entire North East (and will sneak into Dublin too).

Sister station i102104 have done their bit to shake up the radio scene from Galway. Expecting the same from the new guys.

Good luck to Dan Healy and the whole gang out there. Good bunch of radio heads.

No Election on Radio One?

Is it just me, or should RTE Radio 1 (as the National licence fee accepting Full Service station) be highlighting the fact that they will be covering the US Election tonight? Hey, maybe they're not?

Election Radio.

BBC 5 Live and Radio 4 probably have the best radio coverage of tomorrow's US Election in this part of the world. 5Live kick off at 11pm with John Pienaar in Washington, Richard Bacon in Chicago, Lesley Ashmall in Phoenix and Rhod Sharp in Miami. Coverage ends at 5am. http://www.bbc.co.uk/5live

RTE have nothing flagged on their website, nor do NewsTalk in Ireland. There are lots of podcasts avalable and information on the election itself, but the websites show nothing with regards who is where and when during the night. Mark Little is in the States for live TV hook-ups, but no mention of radio. If you find anything, let me know. I also heard that George Hook was due to host a special election broadcast, but nothing on the website http://www.newstalk.ie/

If you're near a Wi-Fi radio or want to listen online, then you could pick any of the hundreds of US News stations, but it can be hit or miss sometimes. Best bet from outside the US is http://www.npr.org/worldwide/

Palin gets Punked !!

Here's the full call from Montreal station CKOI. The call was made by The Masked Avengers, radio comedians based in Montreal who have made prank calls to celebrities and politicians in the past. Here they pretend to be French President Sarkozy and manage to speak with Sarah Palin.

If you recently bought a DAB radio, I hope you weren't expecting to get all of the BBC's and UK stations on it...I know a lot of people in the past thought that they would be able to. Nooooo.

However, there is good news in the fact that RTE are set to continue their Digital output with five specialist stations:

RTE Pulse

RTE 2XM

RTE Junior

RTE Choice and

RTE Chill.

They say they will give more info on December 1st.

Sleep.FM

Not really sure how (or why) this works, but the concept is original anyway.

Sleep.FM - programme in your wake up time and what you want to wake up to and it does the rest...apparantly.

Back in the day, this was called an alarm clock (remember them)?

Sleep. FM works on your laptop...although hooking that up beside your bed every night seems like more work than it's worth.

The good news is that you can also hook it up to your phone. A little more convenient.

Don't think it's something I'll ever need, but you've got to marvel at the ideas that people come up with.

If they could develop a programme that actually helped you get to sleep...now that I may consider!
